The flashy Blue Comet express passenger train began operation on the Jersey Central line in 1929, providing a crack New York to Atlantic City run. In advertisements it was claimed that the brilliant paint, "blends the restful blue of the sky and ocean with the cream-tinted warmness of the sand beach." Offered originally on the Lionel line in the 1930's, this train's coaches were named after comets, indicative of the speed by which the Blue Comet traveled. 6-13103 The Blue Comet 1-400E Steam Locomotive & Tender has the following features: Painted in two-tone blue with nickel plated brass accents, Durable enamel finish, Formed steel and die-cast metal construction, "E" unit for forward-neutral-reverse operation, Original style light, Latch style coupler on the tender. The Locomotive proudly displays the Lionel Logo & Lionel Lines is displayed on the Tender. 6-13408 The Blue Comet Passenger Cars include #1420-Faye Pullman, #1421-Westphal Pullman, and #1422-Tempel Observation. All Pullman Cars have the following features: Durable enamel finish, Nickel plated accents, Formed steel and die-cast metal construction, Opening doors, Detailed interior, Metal passenger seats that swivel, Two washrooms and restrooms with opening doors, Removeable roofs for interior access, Illuminated interiors.
